SoAHEC Mission
Mission:
To serve as a culturally competent regional resource for the promotion of health equity among the communities of southern New Mexico.
In New Mexico, SoAHEC serves Chaves, Cibola, Doña Ana, De Baca, Eddy, Lea, Lincoln, Otero, Roosevelt, Sierra, Socorro, Torrance, and Valencia counties.
Vision:
The vision of SoAHEC is a healthy southern New Mexico.
Goals:
- Develop the AHEC Scholars Program: NM AHEC supports aspiring health professionals in clinical fields of study to become leaders with mentoring, intensive workshops, and participation in community interdisciplinary teams.
- Encourage Health Professional students to Work in Underserved Communities: NM AHEC provides financial support for students from multiple health professional training programs so that they can complete clinical rotations in rural and underserved communities throughout the state.
- Develop the Health Professional Pipeline for underserved communities: New Mexico AHEC engages youth in a variety of health career awareness and mentoring activities offered in public school through special events.
- Support Health Professional Retention and Improve Competency to provide Culturally Sensitive and Regionally appropriate Healthcare: NM AHEC offers continuing education to health providers on a variety of culturally sensitive and regionally relevant topics.
- Develop and Foster Partnerships with Health and Social Service Agencies: NM AHEC builds relationships to more effectively address the health concerns and needs in the communities we serve.
