Dr. Robert Palmer Fund has impact on Luna County nonprofit organizations
Nine local nonprofits to benefit from $60,000 grant.

Wednesday, November 14, 2018; Deming, NM – Nonprofit organizations that make a difference for Luna County residents recently experienced the positive impact of a planned giving legacy donation.
The Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico’s Dr. Robert Palmer Fund awarded over $60,000 to nine agencies working to help bring needed resources to Deming, NM. The fund was established by a $1 million transformational estate gift from Dr. Robert Palmer, with 75 percent of the funds dedicated to awarding grants and student scholarships in Luna County.
Recipients of 2018 funding are Big Brothers Big Sisters Mountain Region for the Luna County Mentor Expansion project; Casa Esperanza for the Family Care Team Program; Deming Silver Linings for the Day Shelter Resource Center; The Early Childhood Coalition of Luna County for the All Inclusive Playground at Voiers’ “Pit” Park; Explora Science Center for Community Science in Luna County Program; The Gila Reading Council of the Children’s Reading Foundation of Luna County for the Literacy Showcase of Luna County; Imagination Library of Luna County-Deming Rotary Club for the Book Gifting Program; Luna County Historical Society for accessibility upgrades for the Ranch Bar building; and the Southwest Center for Health Innovation for the Deming Health Career Academy.
