Community Service

Community service plays a very important role in the operations of our chapter. We pride ourselves on our community service as well as our philanthropic efforts. We have a close relation with our local philanthropy the Oneonta Boy’s and Girl’s Club. We often help out with various events that take place on the weekend and during the holiday season. We also help raise money for the Boy’s and Girl’s Club.

For the 2011 Fall semester our chapter was very active on and off campus. For community service, we provided relief for flood victims by cleaning and mucking out houses. We also provided service to our philanthropy, The Boys and Girls Club.  One event that we have already done with the club was Halloween night, which we gave the children entertainment by running their haunted house. Future events we have with The Boys and Girls Club for this semester and next are a bingo night and pancake breakfast. Events and potential fundraisers are a basketball tournament to raise money MS and one of our alumni’s brother.

In previous semesters, Chi Phi donated over $300 to the Ninash Foundation, a foundation that assists socially and economically disadvantaged children within the US and abroad. As a Fraternity, we raised money to provide educational funding and to promote literacy among children and adults throughout the world, specifically to elementary schools in India.

The Chi Phi Fraternity participated in SUNY Oneonta’s annual Heart & Run Walk last February, to benefit the American Heart Association. We raised over $250!

Also in the 2011 spring semester, Chi Phi participated in Into The Streets on May 3rd, a community service program in which we helped out with The Grange, a local organization.

In May 2008, We were awarded the Philanthropic Achievement Award for the 2006-2007 school year! Awarded annually from the National Office, this highly-deserving award recognizes Chapters of Chi Phi who have made great strides in community service and overall philanthropic service. Out of 60 Chapters in the U.S., we were one of four that were recognized as having outstanding service to our national philanthropy, the Boys and Girls Club, as well as to the local Oneonta community.
