Leadership

The Chi Phi Fraternity at SUNY Oneonta can proudly state that we have some of the strongest leaders on campus; from those that hold executive board positions within Greek Life, to those that are in charge of other clubs and organizations on campus. Our Brothers are heavily involved within the campus community because they believe in leadership and personal growth, networking, and making life-long friendships.

The benefits of joining a recognized fraternity are many. Yet the benefits of joining the Brotherhood of Chi Phi are endless. The Chi Phi Fraternity sponsors unique and exciting leadership opportunities that extend off campus, which allow a Chi Phi to travel the country and experience the values of truth, honesty, and personal integrity on a grander scale.

The National Headquarters of Chi Phi offers leadership programs throughout the year, experiences that are rarely offered by other organizations. These educational and leadership training programs reflect everything a college student is looking for: to become a leader through experience, a better athlete through healthy competition, a better citizen through service, and a better student through the assistance of scholarship and peer mentorship.

These events are known as as The Chi Phi College of Excellence, Wilderness Academy, and Regional Leadership Alliances.

College of Excellence

The Chi Phi College of Excellence is a nationally recognized fraternal leadership academy. COE is designed to develop the best of the best in Chi Phi on both personal and fraternal levels. Through its carefully crafted program and hand-picked facilitators, the COE experience helps Chi Phi Brothers develop authentic leadership skills and contributes to the overall strength of Chi Phi.

COE is powerful because it brings each individual Brother to the next level of understanding about his life and the greater good we call “fraternity” through education about his chapter, his fraternity, his world, and his ability to have a positive influence on each other. COE is great because it helps strengthen Chi Phis and their Chapters; yet it’s outstanding because it brings people together.

Wilderness Academy

The Chi Phi Wilderness Academy is an advanced leadership institute designed to complement the Chi Phi College of Excellence. The Chi Phi Wilderness Academy is a small, personal leadership experience. With both Chi Phi Ritual and one’s own inner adventure into manhood as its focus, the Chi Phi Wilderness Academy is a seven-day, six-night outward bound adventure.

Where the College of Excellence and Chi Phi Congress usually exceed 150 participants, each Wilderness Academy Session is limited to approximately ten individuals, guaranteeing personal development as a leader and as a person.

A physically demanding experience, the Wilderness Academy requires participants to acquire and build on skills related to hiking, backpacking, and mountain or coastline navigation, as well as general wilderness survival skills. Participants also often experience a one-night solo and sweat lodge, and they mark their trip as a cultural right of passage.

All trips have a focus on personal growth and development through using daily leadership experiences, group communication, trust and team-building, and significant introspection and contemplation.

Regional Leadership Alliance

The RLA’s consist of comprehensive Chapter-development programming and instruction. Recruitment and Ritual is discussed as well as learned.

Honor Societies

Chi Phi Brothers also have active memberships in the following Honor Societies: Order of Omega, National Residence Hall Honorary, Omicron Delta Kappa, Lambda Pi Eta, Phi Eta Sigma, Pi Sigma Alpha, Phi Alpha Theta, the EOP Honor Society, and Kappa Delta Pi. Campus involvement is clearly a major characteristic for the men of Chi Phi. Chi Phi also enjoys branching out to other parts of campus, to illustrate its diverse individuals.
