With this semester well underway and with everyones personal agendas building up, the brothers of Chi Phi have not misplaced an ounce of determination to succeed.
After hearing the tragic news that a SUNY Oneonta student’s father was killed in the line of duty as a New York City police officer, we were all taken back and forced to reflect. As an organization with alumni in that field of work and active brothers that aspire to get there one day, we decided to set up multiple community service projects in honor of Officer Figoski.
With the help of our community service chair – Nick Tantillo, we organized a ‘NYPD’ wristband fundraiser to fund a memorial brick in his name to be placed in the Hunt Union brick garden. With that already in-progress, we’re beginning work on a memorial wrestling show on-campus. All proceeds will go towards the Town of Babylon for a memorial in Officer Figoski’s name. This project will be a joint effort with Alpha Phi Delta. Our deepest condolences go out to the entire Figoski family and hope that our efforts can bring at least a smile to those effected.
On a lighter note, our social relations chair – Corey Allen, is organizing a trip to the Steve Wilcos show in Connecticut for all active brothers. The show is providing free transportation AND admission for our brotherhood. We’re all really looking forward to this event.
Stay Classy,
Pete Hillowe [Chi Phi Fraternity - Public Relations Chair]
